MicroLink Devices UK offer extremely lightweight and flexibile Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) based III-V multi-junction solar cells that are world leading in performance and low mass.  We also offer high specific energy battery packs – offering up to twice the endurance for applications such as UAVs.  The synergy of MicroLink Devices’ solar and battery technologies allows for simple integration of complete, ultra-light solar-electric power systems.

Lightweight

With a weight of <250 g/m2 MicroLink Devices UK Ltd Solar cells are extremely light, up to five times lighter than traditional Germanium based solar cells.

High Specific Power

Due to their light weight and high efficiency, ELO solar cells have very high specific powers of >3000 W/kg.

Flexible

ELO cells are truly flexible and robust.  They can conform to surfaces down to 2 cm radius of curvature.

High Efficiency

Efficiencies match those of traditional Germanium based solar cells: >30%.

INVERTED METAMORPHIC SOLAR CELLS

Our proprietary Epitaxial Lift-Off (ELO) process enables the production of ultra-thin, flexible III-V multi-junction solar cells that match the performance of conventional Germanium-based alternatives at a fraction of the weight. Up to five times lighter, these cells reduce overall system mass enabling increased payload capacity, extended mission duration, novel deployment architectures, and lower launch costs for space applications, all without compromising efficiency or manufacturing costs.

FLEXIBLE SOLAR SHEETS

MicroLink Devices’ flexible solar sheets are a key enabling technology for high-altitude aircraft, including the AALTO Zephyr, and BAE systems PHASA-35. Their low mass, high-efficiency, and flexible nature make them an unrivalled product for aircraft integration.  We design and manufacture custom solar sheets tailored to meet specific requirements, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency for each unique application.  Our bespoke solutions provide the flexibility and precision required for specialised projects and missions.
